‘Game of Thrones’: 4×09 Pre-game

Welcome to my brief pre-game spew for tonight’s season four pre-finale episode of Game of Thrones. Just a glimpse into my eager expectations that emerge with every Sunday and spurting my humble obsession with this show, which I feel is arguably the best on television, given what the context of tonight’s episode now represents. That’s of course assuming you haven’t forgotten what went down in last season’s pre-finale.

Not to say that The Red Wedding is now the standard for Thrones‘ penultimate episodes, but at some level I do expect that context to be honored. We’ve had plenty of subtle developments and major moments throughout the season already, the catalyst of course being Joffrey’s death in episode two. My guess is we’re in for another moment tonight. We know from the promo that we’re in for The Battle of Castle Black tonight, which means mass casualties. What are the chances we lose another Stark in Jon Snow? I would predict unlikely, but keeping an open mind on potential deaths is a vital attribute if you’re watching this show, particularly for those of us who are unfamiliar with the books.

Eyes out for:

  • Jaime Lannister – The only person who seems to want his brother alive, I’m curious what drastic measures Jaime might implore to help prevent Tyrion’s death sentence.
  • Sansa Stark – Helping Baelish with whatever his intent and taking on her first true developments as a character in this show.
  • Arya Stark – Still patiently waiting on her official Xena transformation.
  • Daenerys Targaryen – After learning of her trusted Ser Jorah’s deceit, Khaleesi should be more aggressive than ever.

Here’s to another provocative, exquisite, and anticipated night of Game of Thrones.
